“Big Red” is one of the many Great Lakes Lighthouses built offshore and connected
to land by a long pier. The Lighthouse is covered with steel, to protect it from
the tremendous pounding it receives during heavy weather. The building painted bright
red with a slate roof, as it now appears, dates to 1936. The tower rises through
the roof of what was once the keepers dwelling. Located on Ottawa Beach Rd. in the
Holland State Park.
