Pointe Betsie lighthouse was built in 1858 to mark the turning point for ships entering
or exiting the Manitou Passage on Lake Michigan. Pointe Betsie has since been considered
one the most important lights on Lake Michigan. The original tower still stands,
it was one of the last lights on the Great Lakes to be automated.
