Presque Isle is a thin strip of land along Lake Huron between Alpena and Rogers City
that is nearly split from the mainland by Grand Lake. Only at the northwest and southeast
shores of the long narrow lake is Presque Isle connected to the mainland, which is
where its name, “nearly an island” came from. Built in 1870, it is one of the tallest
light structures on the Great Lakes, standing at over 100 feet tall. The New Presque
Isle light is part of Lighthouse Park.
