built in 1895-96. In the late 1940’s it became obsolete, and it was abandoned. In
the late 1970’s a cooperative effort of local citizens and government agencies resulted
in the restoration and protection of the lighthouse. The three-story brick structure
stands at the end of a narrow finger of sand that pokes from the island’s northwest
shore surrounded by the waters of the Straits of Mackinac. It can be viewed by ferry
boat, while crossing to Mackinaw Island from Mackinaw City, MI.
