St. Joseph North Pier Outer Light was the first lighthouse built at the mouth of
the St. Joseph River in 1832. It was one of the earliest lights on Lake Michigan.
The north pier was extended 1,000 feet in 1906, requiring the construction of two
lights which serve as range lights as well as harbor lights.
