built and put into operation in 1853. This lighthouse served Mariners for about 20
years. The Great Lakes are constantly reshaping certain sections of its shoreline,
and by 1870 Tawas Point had changed so much that the lighthouse stood more than a
mile from the waters of Lake Huron. A new lighthouse was completed and in operation
by 1876, the new lighthouse has a 67 foot tower. Located in Tawas State Park.
